i want to be able to collect at least 250 dollars in coin collecting– does anyone know a easy way i can collect them?
imm not trying tooo buy coins, i wanna find themm, or save them,, any GOOOD! tips?

You could use a coin dealer. Or you could use ebay. There are many coin sellers there. What is it you want to collect - pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, half dollars, or dollars?? Or do you want a combination of all of these??

Ok, I see you don’t want to pay for these. About all you can do, is look thru the change you get. Look for the presidential dollars, the different state quarters & some of the varieties of nickles.

Before the u.s. went to copper-clad coins, you had a chance of getting some rare coins. But since 1964, that is no longer possible.

Coin collecting tips?

Posted by admin under coin collecting

I want to start collecting coins, what should I buy to keep them in? I have a few already but they are in a tupperware container lol.

Also any tips you can give me?

(also what’s the coolest coin you have? =) )

Thanks!
All of the chinese zodiac coins are beautiful!

To see just what is available in U.S coin albums and holders go to www.brooklyngallery.com they are a large dealer in coin and stamp supplies. See what you like and can afford. As for interesting coins I have a lot for I collect historical coins. One of my favorites is my Fugio cent the first coin issued by authority of the United States. I also like my ancient Chinese coins. I have more than one favorite coins.

I know it won’t be much, but every little helps I suppose. I’m in the UK and have looked online but can’t see how to go about it, so any help is appreciated.

There be a difference,.between coin collecting,..And,..a donation. I am thinking you are referring to
collecting nickels and dimes for donations - - for the Haitian people,..? This be the one of which
you refers,..Not,..coin collecting,.?

Then,..seek out people that have contributed,..Let them know that you are planning to do a yo-
uths contribution,..That you and some of your age group are planning to Collect some money,..and,..donate same as your group’s contribution,..

You will get help from them,,..and,..they will show to you how you may set the collection up,..

No. All of our coins and paper money are in effect merely tokens.

We all now rely upon something called a "fiat" currency system, which means we trust that the paper money we have is backed by stores of precious metals held by our central banks (such as stocks of gold held in Fort Knox or in the Bank of England). If you look at a UK note you will see it has the words on it "I promise to pay the bearer on demand the sum of X pounds". This means that theoretically you can take it to the Bank of England and they will give you its equivalent in gold in exchange. These days that is just a theory, though!

If there is a shortage of a particular denomination, say five pound notes, the issuing authority simply prints some more.

It has been quite a long time since anybody actually checked to see if the total value of all the notes and coins circulating actually was backed up by valuable metals in a vault, and I think if anyone tried to do it they might get a nasty shock. But since nobody actually does try to do it, we are all OK. Aren’t we?

how do i start my collection? i have about $80 and 2 silver dollars, a liberty dollar and a penny fron 1919

I am not sure what you mean by a "liberty dollar" as all US dollars have the word LIBERTY on them. You can start buying rolls of coins at a bank for face value and look for valuable or interesting coins there. When you are done, you just exchange the rolls though you may want to check with the bank for their policy regarding this practice. The Red Book in the first link below is always a good starting point. You might also search for a local coin club at the second link below. Coin collecting can be fun, but it is not for everyone. I hope that helps.

I have a coin collection that I want to keep track of. Is there a FREEWARE program that is made for Mac that can help me out? I have to many coins from to many different places, it’s hard to keep track of them all.

Here are two software download links however I do not know if they are any good. Another option is the third link where you can register and track your coins in the website database of world coins. I hope that helps.

I am hoping there are other coin collectors here in the Pacific Northwest who share my passion!!!

Here is a search engine.

I have a lot of "proof sets" though I doubt they are worth a crap, I like them anyway.

It’s such a broad, huge field how do you know where to start?

Do you just pick a coin you like (I like Mercury Dimes and Morgan Dollars) for instance and go with it or what?

Thanks for the input.

Coin collecting is a very large field but you already like 2 types of coins that have a great following. Winged Liberty dimes (Mercury) are great coins that are also quite beautiful. I have 2 complete sets. Morgan silver dollars are a fun thing also. I knew that I would never be able to complete the set due to a few very expensive coins. I also did know that I could complete a date set, that is one of each date. I made sure I had all the mints included and also was lucky enough to get some of the scarce dates also. I have a nice set and work on making it better grade wise. I have collected for a long time so I have interests in most all coins. Right now I am working on ancient Asian coins. I buy the proof sets also and some were a good buy and others were not. As you get into coins and learn more you may want to buy books and study coins, do research, if or when that happens you will become a numismatist. It is a great hobby and one can even make a few buck by knowing more about a series than the dealers do but don’t let them know that. have fun

i want to be able to collect at least 250 dollars in coin collecting– does anyone know a easy way i can collect them? or some good tips

You may want to find some good reference material. It will help you to know as much as you can before you buy. A good starting point is the Red Book. Your local library may be helpful.

My friend is going to New York for a week tomorrow and staying in zip code 10003-8099 (2 saint mark’s place) I want to ask her to go to a coin shop and buy me the last few state quarters i haven’t managed to find.

Does anyone know a good coin store in New York that might sell the State Quarters?

Thanks very much in advance, Kat

The last few haven’t been circulated yet; be patient. They will all be out by the end of the year. They are only currently available in proof sets.
